Windblown Beauty: "Perhaps the best-loved and certainly the most spectacular of all backyard birds is the male Northern Cardinal. Seven of the United States have designated the cardinal as their official state bird. It’s not unusual for us to see four or five of these blazing-red beauties at our bird feeders at one time. The females are more difficult to see because their subdued color has only touches of red, but they are lovely in their own way. "
